The Painswick Oak Desk

Handmade using locally and responsibly sourced barn-dried Oak from Painswick, Gloucestershire and features a quater-sawn Oak bowtie that seamlessly blends in yet glows in sunlight!

This slab had unfortunately bowed quite a lot whilst drying in the barn, and I just could not get it dead flat - so I embraced its curves and kept it for myself!

By applying the precept of the famous architect Antoni Gaudí that “there are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature” the timber has not been left as it was sawn, but bevelled and rounded so the edges of the table are smooth to touch and looks at peace, as one piece - giving the rustic country style a more a more refined, contemporary finish.

This desk has been sanded to a very fine grit, making it luxuriously smooth, then treated with several coats of linseed oil and non-toxic spirit, and finished Earthborn furniture wax for an environmentally conscious finish that showcases the natural beauty of the grain. The legs are handmade in Wiltshire by thehairpinlegco using powder-coated carbon steel and fitted with professional 1” stainless steel screws offering genuinely superior strength.
