Care and Maintainance

Tables - Unless stated otherwise my tables are only suitable for indoor use.

I recommend regular use of Method’s plant-based wood polish to protect and condition the table top (plus it smells amazing). Depending on usage, regular re-application of Earthborn furniture wax is recommended to ensure the timber is well protected.

Please note that I use natural and environmentally conscious products such as low-VOC rot and insect protection, non-toxic spirit, linseed oil and furniture wax which offer a moderate level of protection, but are not as robust as a polyurethane varnish for example - this has been done to allow it to age with use; embrace those spills, burns, dents and aging of colour over the years in the knowledge that the products used don’t cost the Earth.

On some tables I have also used Osmo Polyx-oil where appropriate, to enhance protection.

Boards - Clean using warm water with a mild/natural detergent and lightly wipe down with a sponge, ensuring any residual water is soaked up afterwards with a dishcloth before air drying - never clean in a dishwasher or by using bleach.

To prolong the life of your board, regular application of my Chopping Board Conditioner when required (never olive oil - it will go rancid) will stop it drying out and cracking, whilst forming a water resistant barrier to reduce staining, germs and bacteria:

  • ensure your board is thoroughly clean and completely dry

  • if the grain is rough; smooth it by rubbing over some very fine sandpaper

  • apply chopping board conditioner sparingly using a clean cloth or kitchen roll

  • spread evenly all over the surface area and work into the wood

  • leave to absorb for 15-30mins then wipe away excess and buff to a soft sheen

  • for best results leave the conditioner to cure overnight before using!

Products, Materials and Design

12Tree.uk and the products listed on this site are provided subject to the following terms and conditions so please read them carefully.

Products are NOT for re-sale unless permission is specifically agreed and granted by 12Tree.

Please ensure you carefully read the description of the item(s) you wish to purchase, including it’s individual dimensions and study the photographs provided to make sure you are happy with the product before purchasing. Note the dimensions displayed for each product are approximate, measured from the maximum area possible and weight is rounded up to the nearest 0.5kg.

While I endeavour to produce the highest quality furniture, the very nature of the materials I use and the methods of craftsmanship means that there will be characterful traits and natural nuances with each piece. These are not considered defects, and hopefully it is these attributes that drew you to the unique beauty of the furniture in the first place! The following list are examples of such:

  • natural colour variation in the wood

  • grain pattern and medullary rays

  • knots, ‘checks’ and natural cracks

  • small marks or chips left by hand tools before finishing oil is applied

  • minor warping / uneven thickness

Natural timber products can respond to exposure to sunlight, temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting, which in some cases can lead to cracking and/or warping. I cannot be held responsible for changes in the wood due to environmental factors, however precautions have been made to prevent this from happening in the drying, woodworking and treatment process. To minimise the risk of this happening, please keep tables somewhere with a consistent atmosphere, good air flow and away from heat sources. As such products are not suitable for outdoor use, in bathrooms or wet-rooms unless otherwise stated.
