The Painswick Oak Coffee Table
This farmhouse style coffee table has been handmade using barn-dried Oak from Painswick, Gloucestershire. The wood used came from a gorgeous Oak aged at circa 800 years old, which sadly had to be felled in 2018 for safety reasons after a major limb failed and fell on a building! Features an Indian Teak bow-tie (made from an old shipping container) to stabilise a natural crack.
By applying a more refined contemporary approach to the rustic country style; using Antoni Gaudí’s precept that “there are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature” all areas of my furniture are not left as they were sawn, but bevelled and rounded so they are smooth to touch and look at peace, as one piece.

This table has been treated with a low-VOC rot and insect protection, then finished with several coats of non-toxic spirit and linseed oil before applying a final layer of Earthborn furniture wax for a protective satin and environmentally conscious finish that showcases the natural beauty of the grain. The legs are handmade in Wiltshire by thehairpinlegco using powder-coated carbon steel and fitted with 1” stainless steel screws offering genuinely superior strength.
Care and Maintenance:
I recommend regular use of Method’s plant-based wood polish to protect and condition the table top (plus it smells amazing). Worn areas can be maintained by re-applying Earthborn furniture wax. For more information click here
Natural timber products can respond to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. In some cases this can lead to cracking and/or warping. Precautions have been made to prevent this from happening in the drying, woodworking and treatment process. To minimise the risk of this happening, please keep the table somewhere with a consistent atmosphere, good air flow and away from heat sources.
Not suitable for outdoor use.
