Spalted Beech Side Table

£340.00
sold out

Handmade using timber from a large Beech tree limb (approx. 300 years old) that failed and fell into a garden in the grounds of a stately home in the Cotswolds, at the beginning of March 2020.

This luxurious side table features oak bowtie inlays (that flaunt some stunning medullary rays) to stabilise natural cracks that occur during the drying process. Smaller cracks have been filled with a contrasting premium black wood filler, that is non-acrylic and water-based, instead of using an epoxy resin.

Sanded down to a fine grit, this side table is finished with Osmo Polyx, a natural hardwax-oil for a smooth and highly durable finish. The legs are made from brass-coated carbon steel, which are are handmade in Wiltshire by thehairpinlegco, and are fitted with professional 1” stainless steel screws for superior strength.

Care and Maintenance:

I recommend regular use of Method’s plant-based wood polish to protect and condition the table top (plus it smells amazing). Well worn or damaged areas can be maintained by re-appling a very thin layer of Osmo Polyx-oil - please feel free to contact me for advice on this!

Natural timber products can respond to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. In some cases this can lead to cracking and/or warping. Precautions have been made to prevent this from happening in the drying, woodworking and treatment process. To minimise the risk of this happening, please keep the table somewhere with a consistent atmosphere, good air flow and away from heat sources.

Not suitable for outdoor use.
